PURPOSE
The purpose of the Globernance Institute is to become a medium for dialogue and knowledge exchange. To this end, Globernance works as part of a network involving some of the world’s leading centres in the field of social and political research. It collaborates with institutions and companies to promote social innovation and democratic governance.
A NEW FORM OF SOCIAL ORGANIZATION AND THOUGHT
The concept of governance, understood in a broad sense, refers to a profound change in the social action and forms of government of contemporary societies. These must be relocated in an area determined by the State, the market and society, and within a context marked by globalization, Europeanisation and interdependence. In political science, governance expresses a transformation of statehood in democracies, forced to shift from hierarchical, sovereign forms towards more cooperative approaches.
TRANSFORMING POLITICS, A CHALLENGE
How to accommodate the different actors and to what extent? How to delineate different social spheres (economy, culture, politics, the media) and the different institutional levels? This involves understanding and managing processes of communication and cooperation between agents whose actions are interdependent.
The concept of governance currently represents the chance to save political power from its ineffectiveness and insignificance, recuperate politics and, at the same time, deeply transform it.
